The government of the UK is the beating heart of the political system. This course will look at the history and nature of the Constitution, along with the three main branches of government. You will explore the role and structure of parliament, the principles that guide the Executive, and the ability for the judiciary to hold the other two to account. Many important debates about the political system will emerge, such as the importance of the House of Lords, the power of the Prime Minister over Cabinet, and the impartiality and independence of the Supreme Court.
